Fear of God

God is in control of everything and the time has come that His children seek Him for not just His works but for who He is. God wants to reveal Himself to His children. It does not mean that God has run out of blessings. It means that we should give God the honor that He deserves. Without Him, we are still poor.

We don’t seek God anymore because there is no fear of the Name of God and there is no remembrance of His works in our life. Not only have we forgotten, we also neglect to take the history to its merit to know of His works.

However, man always has a desire to be right. We do what is right in our eyes based on past experiences, education and cultural practices. For him, being right is not to be found wrong based on his own wisdom. We feel good when we are not at fault. But we have ignored to check whether or not we are right in God’s eyes. We need to have that inner knowing that our hearts are in tune with God. Too many times, we live in an illusion that we are right when in fact, we are far from Him.

What it is to be right with God?

It means that when God sees me, He finds no sin in me. I am pure in his eyes. We cannot buy our righteousness with God. Our works will never be good enough for a Holy God. When I trust in Jesus, in the fact, that He took my sins upon Himself, and ask His forgiveness, He washes me from my sins. I am a sinless person in God’s eyes because God now sees me through Christ, who is sinless.

Is there a way to be right with God?

Psalm 86:11 says,

Teach me thy way, O LORD, and I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Firstly, we need to prepare our hearts. II Chronicles 12:14 says,

And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

There are certain habits, attitudes and people that hinder us in our relationship with God. We need to seek God to help us repent of our old ways and thoughts and aim towards having a sweet communion with God. This desire to change comes in our heart when we really mean to be right with God.

Secondly, we should seek God’s direction. Honor His counsel. Every day, we make decisions, some of which we are not certain about. When we seek both God’s and man’s counsel, we are being indecisive about the outcome. Unless we seek direction from God, we are nowhere close to His ways.

Thirdly, we need to obey Him. When we commit to seek God, we must also commit to obey Him. The Word of God clearly states in James 1:22 that a believer has to be a doer of the word and not just be hearer. I Samuel 15:22 says, ‘To obey is better than sacrifice’.

Bible says in Matthew 6:33,

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Dear friends, let us examine our hearts. I pray that the Church will not stand guilty of seeking blessings more than God’s Kingdom and His Righteousness. God bless you.
